As am I but duct tape is considerably easier to work with. It also better protects against rain.

Placing a couple layers of plastic wrap around the foam before applying cloth to the striking surface and duct tape to the non striking surfaces will also protect it.

Additionally, scotch guarding the cloth will also help.

Which deals with the water proof part, but not the ease of craft part.

Are you proposing that wastelands switches to ONLY cloth for homemade weapons? That's what it sounds like. Such a change would invalidate every homemade weapon currently used by PC and NPC alike. In fact, other than about 5 weapons, it would invalidate just about every homemade weapon I've ever seen at wastelands.

It would increase the barrier of entry for new and experienced larpers. New players because weapons are now harder to make (especially if you don't have access to a sewing machine) and veterans because they probably also don't have cloth weapons (every nearby boffer game allows tape weapons).

The game kit doesn't, to my knowledge, have any cloth covered weapons. Much less the amount that would be needed to facilitate the increase in borrowing that would occur.

Even if I prefer cloth weapons, I cannot support a switch to cloth only.

No, providing other options/avenues of thought. Also, including it as an option for crafting.

+1 for allowing cloth as an option.

So it is. -1 for Bryan's reading comprehension.
